CAMPAIGN CHAIR
KR Rombauer
Growing up in Napa Valley and working in his family vineyards, it was pretty much foretold that he would grow up loving good food and good wine. And, indeed, he did.
“I followed my father’s footsteps and got my commercial pilot’s license but by then the airline industry had changed and, after college, I found myself really drawn to the land. There is something very rewarding about making wine. It’s hard not to be passionate about it.”
A visit to the sun-soaked, rolling hillside of Rombauer Winery, which is surrounded by a vibrant, perfumed garden entrance, is to be reminded of Joan Rombauer, his mother who passed away in 2002, and whom he says is “responsible for the gardens and much of the success over the years that the wines now enjoy.” Joan was a driving force, with his father Koerner, in building the long-lasting relationships, as well as the wine that have garnered so much attention.
The family’s thumbprint is evident throughout the Napa Valley, where they are currently serving as the 2011 Chairs of Auction Napa Valley, one of the largest charity events in America, and are known by their generous devotion to many community activities.
When he isn’t traveling the world as the winery’s Director of Sales and Marketing, KR is avidly encouraging supporters to join the family in responding to the needs of Napa Valley Hospice & Adult Day Services’ Legacy of Compassion Campaign. “I can’t think of another Napa Valley charity that has such a wide network that reaches into the family and friendships of so many of us. With the support of Hospice, my mother was cared for -- and we were cared for -- in a way that made the last part of her life as meaningful as the first part. We will be forever grateful for our experience with Hospice and do whatever we can to help.”
